What to Expect at Labelbox Accelerate 2021
When we were first considering hosting an event, we didn’t want to just add to the noise and hype around AI, but instead, to bring you truly actionable insights, skills, and ideas that you can put into motion.
We think, write, and talk about machine learning year-round – Labelbox Accelerate gives us the chance to combine this knowledge and directly connect you with some of the most visionary thought-leaders leveraging machine learning to change lives and our world (as well as other worlds!).
Perhaps you’re already a practitioner of machine learning, or perhaps you’re someone looking to revolutionize aspects of your business through the power of AI, we’ve gathered some of the world’s leading data scientists and business leaders to inspire and educate you. Whether you’re a Labelbox power user or completely new to the world of machine learning, we’ve designed Labelbox Accelerate to benefit you no matter your industry or area of expertise.
This free, virtual conference is open to everyone, without the barriers of travel and time away from the office or home base.
Join us on Wednesday, October 20, and Thursday, October 21, from 8-11 a.m. PDT. We have a variety of sessions covering some of the most interesting use cases of machine learning, panel sessions bringing together thought-leaders, as well as an inside look at what’s new and coming soon to Labelbox and how you can transform your ML/AI processes.
We are also leveraging an interactive platform, so you can still benefit from one of the best parts of in-person conferences: the networking. It’s your one chance to pick the brains of some of the best leaders in business. You’ll be able to ask questions in real-time for our speakers and Labelbox team. You’ll also be able to connect with fellow attendees (something that admittedly we all took for granted pre-pandemic but has become increasingly hard to do in our changing world). We’ll have networking breaks where you can break out into groups, chat, and meet some of the other Labelbox Accelerate attendees.
We are so excited to introduce you to this year’s roster of brilliant minds, so let’s take a look at just a few of the speakers and sessions you can expect to attend at Labelbox Accelerate 2021.
Keynote: Your Competitive Advantage Should Be Data with Cathie Wood, CEO/CIO at ARK Invest
When it comes to bold predictions in the market, Cathie Wood has everyone’s attention. Frequently on the front pages of Insider, Financial Times, CNBC, Entrepreneur, and Forbes, Cathie Wood’s must-read predictions landed her as the best stock picker of 2020 by Bloomberg News.
Making a splash in 2018 when she put up a stout defense of Tesla in a very rough year, Ms. Wood captured the young generation of tech-savvy and risk-averse retail investors ready to become disciples of an experienced but brave voice in the market.
A thematic portfolio manager for disruptive innovation, Wood has over 40 years of experience identifying and investing in innovation. The founder and chief executive of ARK Invest, Wood seeks to identify companies that are leading innovations in artificial intelligence, robotics, DNA sequencing, and blockchain technology.
Cathie Wood will take the virtual stage at Labelbox Accelerate on Wednesday, October 20 at 8:10 a.m. PDT in a must-see keynote session to share her insights on where the future may be headed for artificial intelligence.
Case Study: Employing ML to Find Signs of Life in Our Solar System with Data Scientists Dr. Mark Wronkiewicz and Jake Lee from the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Remember when we mentioned Labelbox Accelerate wouldn’t just cover the use of machine learning in our world but other worlds as well? Meet Dr. Mark Wronkiewicz and Jake Lee, data scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). They are currently searching for life forms on Europa, a moon of Jupiter, and Enceladus, a moon of Saturn.
The Ocean World Life Surveyor (OWLS) project at NASA’s JPL is looking at the possibility of sending a spacecraft to one of the moons. The craft will be equipped with microscopes that will collect video data from water samples. Mark and Jake will share the story of how they developed an algorithm that helps scientists find these life forms.
The team quickly uploads video datasets collected from microscopes. With the intuitive video editor and training from the researchers, the labelers are easily able to track various objects’ movements over time and determine if they might be live organisms. If the footage captured contains evidence of microbes, NASA researchers will have effectively discovered extraterrestrial life.
Tune into their session at Labelbox Accelerate on Thursday, October 21 at 9 a.m. PDT and learn more about their research and why they turned to Labelbox for their training data platform and workforce.
Panel Session: Build Versus Buy, Exploring the Benefits of Implementing a Home-Grown Versus External Labeling Solution with Ramanan Paramasivan, R&D Director at Stryker and Lars Roessler, Venture Partner at BSH Startup Kitchen
Here’s a question many ML teams grapple with: should they build their labeling solutions or invest in a training data platform?
Production AI teams spend up to 80% of their time building and maintaining training data infrastructure, which is not an ideal usage of their time. And considering the process of creating and managing training data is something ML teams will have to focus on time and time again, isn’t it worth a deeper look to see which solution will most benefit your team?
Most teams underestimate just how complex the process of data labeling, iterating, and collaborating can be. The Labelbox Accelerate stage will unite a few of the brightest minds in technology to discuss their experiences with building versus buying a training data platform and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.
Leverage their insights to help inform your own decisions on Thursday, October 21 at 9 a.m. PDT.
Labelbox Product Demo: What Best in Class Looks Like for Data Labeling with Dan Buczaczer, CMO at Labelbox
Perhaps you have started to see some of the potential ML has in transforming your business. But progress in ML rarely looks like a straight line. The number one concern we hear is that getting to production AI is much slower than expected. In the Algorithmia 2020 State of ML Survey, 96% of companies encounter delays getting to production.
So, how do you keep going when the going gets tough?
The most successful organizations in AI have a well-optimized process for iterating on their labeled data, fueled by data on what is working, and employ a range of techniques to continually and methodically increase accuracy while driving down cost.
Labelbox has seen how hundreds of organizations label, manage, and improve their training data. We’ll unpack some of our knowledge and give you strategies on how you can better handle your training data pipeline, improve iteration, and ultimately build performant models efficiently.
Join us at 10:35 a.m. PDT on Wednesday, October 20 during Labelbox Accelerate to discover our best practices for data labeling and how you can get to production AI faster.
Defense Panel Session: The Need for Strong ML Capabilities in National Security with William F. Moran, Admiral of the United States Navy; George Hoyem, Managing Partner at IQT; Doug Philippone, Head of Global Defense at Palantir; and Bryan Walsh, Correspondent at Axios
John Paul Jones, often referred to as the father of the American Navy, is probably best known for his battle cry during the American Revolution: “I have not yet begun to fight.”
Admiral William Moran recognizes a new fight is on the horizon: fighting to stay at the very top of technological advancements to power up our military. An ardent supporter of machine learning, Admiral Moran notes the need for AI in advanced weapons systems, as well as AI-powered processes to support predictive maintenance for the upkeep of our fleets and equipment.
Admiral Moran will also be joined by George Hoyem of IQT, Doug Philippone of Palantir Technologies, and Bryan Walsh of Axios in this unique panel session. By implementing a big data strategy and creating necessary architectures, AI is enabling vast opportunities and innovations for our armed forces that we’ve previously never been able to fully leverage.
See for yourself during this meeting of minds at Labelbox Accelerate on Thursday, October 21 at 8:10 a.m. PDT.
