Why Join Us

High-Impact Environment: We operate like an early-stage startup, focusing on impact over process. You'll take on expanded responsibilities quickly, with career growth directly tied to your contributions.

Technical Excellence: Work at the cutting edge of AI development, collaborating with industry leaders and shaping the future of artificial intelligence.

Innovation at Speed: We celebrate those who take ownership, move fast, and deliver impact. Our environment rewards high agency and rapid execution.

Continuous Growth: Every role requires continuous learning and evolution. You'll be surrounded by curious minds solving complex problems at the frontier of AI.

Clear Ownership: You'll know exactly what you're responsible for and have the autonomy to execute. We empower people to drive results through clear ownership and metrics.

The role

The FDE Manager leads and grows the team of Forward Deployed Engineers who own the high-level technical side of our customer data programs. FDEs scope tasks, design the pipelines and measurement that turn a customer's goal into a training signal, write the instructions that guide Alignerrs, and work out what each customer actually needs from their data. The FDE Manager owns the people who do that work — their craft, their growth, and how they're deployed across domains and customers — and is accountable for the technical quality and consistency of what the team produces.

This role sits at the intersection of people leadership, technical depth, and delivery quality. The FDE Manager must understand the technical substance of our projects well enough to coach on scoping and pipeline design, pressure-test instructions, judge whether a project's data will genuinely move the customer's model, and raise the bar on measuring quality early rather than late. It's a player-coach role: you lead people, but you stay close enough to the work to set and defend the craft bar yourself.

The FDE Manager reports to the Services lead and partners closely with the SPL Manager, Deployment Leads, and General Managers. A core part of the role is keeping FDEs at the right altitude — focused on higher-level technical and customer-facing work — and actively handing the day-to-day running of projects to the SPLs and Pod Leads, so the team's most expensive technical talent is never absorbed into project operations.

The FDE Manager also owns FDE onboarding and is the steward of the FDE career path, which runs from FDE to FDE 2 to FDE Manager, with branches toward the Forward Deployed Researcher (FDR) track and, in time, toward General Manager.

What You'll Do

Lead the FDE team end-to-end: hire, coach, manage performance, and develop careers across the FDE track and toward FDR or GM.

Own the supply side of FDE staffing: commit FDEs to the staffing cadence and match them to projects by skill and development need, balancing each FDE's preferred vertical with where the work is, and staffing to the phase of a project rather than parking people for its full length.

Set and uphold the craft bar: sharp task scoping, sound pipeline and measurement design (including the LLM-as-judge and quality instrumentation that surface problems early), clear instruction writing, and compelling customer-facing presentation of findings.

Protect FDE focus: keep day-to-day project operations with the SPLs and Pod Leads, and keep FDEs on scoping, technical depth, and what the customer needs from the data.

Own FDE onboarding and the bar that certifies a new FDE as ready to be staffed: define which projects are eligible to onboard on, maintain the instruction and Loom repository, and run the onboarding program — including the core exercise (read a past project's instructions, explain them back, and write a new version in the repo).

Drive reuse and leverage: build the templates, tooling, and playbooks that stop FDEs rebuilding pipelines and instructions from scratch each project, so the team's capacity compounds as we scale.

Ensure FDEs work hand-in-glove with FDRs on research, efficacy, and customer needs, and partner with whoever owns quality sign-off so quality is caught in flight, not at delivery.

Partner with the SPL Manager, Deployment Leads, and GMs on staffing, delivery, and alignment with customer objectives.

Step in on escalations when a pipeline, delivery, or customer relationship is at risk.

Maintain a clear, live view of team capacity, utilization, and bench across active projects.

What You'll Own

The capability and craft bar of the FDE team.

How quickly and consistently new FDEs reach a staffable standard.

Healthy deployment — the right FDEs on the right projects, at the right altitude and utilization.

A growing bench of FDEs developing toward FDR and future leadership.

What We're Looking For

A strong forward-deployed / FDE background, or significant experience managing technical or delivery people — and readiness to be a hands-on, player-coach manager.

Strong technical fluency in our domain: enough depth in frontier-data work, RL environments, data pipelines, and quality/evaluation to coach credibly on scoping, pipelines, judge design, and data quality.

Excellent judgment on what makes data genuinely useful to a customer — how to translate ambiguous requirements into clear plans, and how to tell whether data will actually move a model.

A track record of developing people and giving direct, useful feedback.

A high bar for quality paired with the ability to deliver against ambitious timelines.

Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-scaling environments where the processes are still being built.

The ability to manage multiple people and projects at once without losing attention to detail.

Nice to Have

Direct experience with RLHF, reinforcement-learning environments, evaluation/benchmark work, or LLM-as-judge systems.

Experience working with forward-deployed engineers, solutions engineers, or implementation teams.

Experience building onboarding programs, instruction systems, or training content.

Experience scaling a team and its operating processes in a high-growth environment.

What Success Looks Like

In your first several months, you'll take ownership of the FDE team, raise the bar on scoping, pipeline, and instruction quality, and get onboarding running smoothly — eligible projects defined, the instruction and Loom repository in good shape, and new FDEs reaching a staffable standard faster and more consistently. You'll build strong working relationships with the SPL Manager, Deployment Leads, and GMs, keep FDEs well-deployed and at the right altitude, and become the person the team relies on for craft and career growth.

Over time, you'll define how FDEs work at scale: the templates, tooling, and playbooks that let the team produce more without rebuilding from scratch, a measurement-and-quality craft bar that surfaces problems early, and a pipeline of FDEs growing into FDRs and future leaders.

Labelbox strives to ensure pay parity across the organization and discuss compensation transparently. The expected annual base salary range for United States-based candidates is below.

The Role

We’re hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to own the design, development, and operationalization of reinforcement learning environments. You’ll build the sandboxed, reproducible execution environments that AI agents interact with during training and evaluation—things like terminal-based task benchmarks, browser and computer-use environments, and tool-augmented agentic workspaces.

This is a hands-on engineering role. You’ll write production-quality infrastructure code, integrate with open-source RL tooling, and work closely with our data operations team to ensure environments are robust, observable, and ready for human annotators and model agents alike. You won’t be doing ML research, but you’ll need to deeply understand how RL training loops consume environments and where the bottlenecks live.

What You’ll Do

Design, build, and maintain sandboxed RL environments for agentic AI training—including terminal emulators, browser automation harnesses, computer-use simulators, and tool-augmented workspaces (e.g., environments built on frameworks like TerminalBench, OSWorld, and Tau-bench)

Develop reproducible, containerized execution environments (Docker, VMs, lightweight sandboxes) that support deterministic task rollouts and reward signal collection

Integrate with and extend open-source agentic tooling and custom CLI/API harnesses to enable multi-step agent interaction

Build instrumentation and observability layers—structured logging, trajectory capture, state snapshotting—so training runs and human annotation sessions produce clean, auditable data

Collaborate with data operations to design task curricula and evaluation protocols that stress-test model capabilities across environment types

Own environment deployment and reliability: CI/CD pipelines, automated testing of environment configurations, and monitoring for drift or breakage across versions

Rapidly prototype new environment types as client and internal requirements evolve, moving from spec to working system in days, not weeks

What We’re Looking For

Required

2+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong fundamentals in Python and at least one systems-level language (Go, Rust, C++)

Demonstrated experience with containerization and sandboxing (Docker, Podman, Firecracker, or similar) in production or near-production contexts

Familiarity with RL concepts: MDPs, reward shaping, episode structure, observation/action spaces. You don’t need to have trained models, but you need to understand what an environment must provide to an RL training loop

Experience building or maintaining developer tooling, CLI tools, or infrastructure automation

Comfort working with browser automation frameworks or terminal interaction tooling

Strong debugging instincts—you can trace failures across process boundaries, container layers, and network calls

Ability to read and implement from academic papers and open-source benchmark repositories without extensive hand-holding

Preferred

Direct experience building or contributing to RL environments (Gymnasium/Gym, PettingZoo, or custom environment implementations)

Experience with agentic AI evaluation frameworks (SWE-bench, WebArena, OSWorld, TerminalBench, or similar)

Familiarity with GCP or AWS infrastructure (Compute Engine, ECS/EKS, Cloud Build)

Prior work at an AI data company, ML platform company, or AI research lab

Contributions to open-source projects in the RL, agents, or dev-tools space

Candidate Archetype

The ideal candidate is a strong software engineer first, with genuine curiosity and working knowledge of reinforcement learning. You’ve probably built infrastructure or developer tooling at a startup or mid-stage company, and you’ve been pulled toward the ML/AI space—maybe through side projects, open-source contributions, or a prior role adjacent to an ML team. You’re the kind of engineer who reads an RL benchmark paper and immediately thinks about how to make the environment more robust, not how to improve the policy gradient.

You thrive in ambiguity. You can take a loosely defined project requirement—“build an environment that tests an agent’s ability to navigate a file system and execute multi-step bash workflows”—and deliver a working, tested, documented system without needing a detailed spec. You move fast, but you care about reliability because you know environments that break silently poison training data.

Why This Role Matters

RL environment quality is one of the biggest bottlenecks in agentic AI training today. Environments that are brittle, non-deterministic, or poorly instrumented produce noisy reward signals that directly degrade model performance. You’ll be solving one of the highest-leverage infrastructure problems in AI.

You’ll work across a portfolio of projects spanning different AI labs and model capabilities—no single-product monotony. The environment types you build will evolve as the frontier of agent capabilities moves.

Alignerr is a small, high-impact team inside a well-funded company (Labelbox). You’ll have startup-level ownership with growth-stage resources.

Alignerr Services at Labelbox

Forward Deployed Engineer, RL Environments

Shape the Future of AI

At Labelbox, we're building the critical infrastructure that powers breakthrough AI models at leading research labs and enterprises. Since 2018, we've been pioneering data-centric approaches that are fundamental to AI development, and our work becomes even more essential as AI capabilities expand exponentially.

About Labelbox

We're the only company offering three integrated solutions for frontier AI development:

Enterprise Platform & Tools: Advanced annotation tools, workflow automation, and quality control systems that enable teams to produce high-quality training data at scale

Frontier Data Labeling Service: Specialized data labeling through Alignerr, leveraging subject matter experts for next-generation AI models

Expert Marketplace: Connecting AI teams with highly skilled annotators and domain experts for flexible scaling

Role Overview

Alignerr is Labelbox's human data organization — we produce the training data that frontier AI labs use to build their most capable models. Our Forward Deployed Research Team sits at the intersection of research science and client delivery, embedding research capability directly into the engagements that drive our business.

This is not a traditional research scientist role. You will not spend months pursuing a single research question. You will work on multiple client engagements simultaneously, operating on timescales of days to weeks. You will sit in scoping meetings with research teams at major AI labs, reason scientifically about data strategy in real time, fine-tune open-weight models to validate our data methodology, and collaborate with our Applied Research team to turn client-grounded findings into published work. The pace is fast, the problems are applied, and the feedback loops are short.

We are looking for someone who finds that energizing, not compromising.

Your Impact

Engage directly with frontier lab research teams. You will be in the room during client scoping meetings — not as support staff, but as a technical peer. You'll engage on methodology, challenge assumptions about data requirements, and shape project specifications based on a scientific understanding of how data composition affects model outcomes.

Develop deep scientific understanding of client engagements. For each project, you will build a working model of the client's architecture, training methodology, and target capabilities. You'll use this understanding to reason about why a particular data strategy will or won't work, identify risks early, and iterate with empirical grounding — not intuition.

Run ablation studies and fine-tune open-weight models. You will fine-tune models on client data (and proxy data) to empirically measure the impact of our data on model performance. This is how we validate that what we deliver actually improves our customers' models — and how we catch problems before the client does.

Consult on workflow and quality systems. You will partner with our Human Data Operations team to review annotation schemas, task designs, and quality rubrics before projects go into execution. Your job is to ensure the spec is technically sound — that the data we produce will actually serve the client's training objectives.

Collaborate with Applied Research on publications and benchmarks. Our Applied Research team owns the long-horizon research agenda. Your role is to feed them signal from the field — generalizable findings, reusable methodologies, empirical results — and help drive joint projects to completion. You will contribute to benchmarks, white papers, and conference submissions that establish Labelbox's research credibility.

What You Bring

Required

MS or PhD in Machine Learning, NLP, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.

Hands-on experience fine-tuning large language models (open-weight models such as Llama, Mistral, Qwen, or similar).

Strong understanding of LLM training pipelines — pretraining, supervised fine-tuning, RLHF/DPO, and how data quality and composition affect each stage.

Experience designing and executing experiments with rigor — hypothesis formation, controlled comparisons, statistical analysis of results.

Ability to operate at speed. You should be comfortable going from problem definition to experimental results in days, not months.

Strong written and verbal communication. You will present findings to client research teams and contribute to published work.

Strongly Preferred

Prior experience at a frontier AI lab, applied ML startup, or in a research role with direct client/stakeholder interaction.

Experience with evaluation and benchmarking of LLMs — designing metrics, building eval harnesses, interpreting results critically.

Familiarity with human data pipelines — annotation workflows, quality assurance methodology, inter-annotator agreement analysis.

Experience with reinforcement learning, reward modeling, or RLHF environments.

Published research (conferences, journals, or technical reports) in ML/NLP or adjacent fields.

What Matters More Than Credentials

Applied instinct over academic purity. The measure of success here is client impact and publishable-but-practical results — not methodological novelty for its own sake. If your first instinct when handed a problem is to build a framework, this isn't the role. If your first instinct is to run an experiment and get a result, it is.

Comfort with ambiguity and incomplete information. Client engagements rarely come with clean problem statements. You'll need to extract the real question from a noisy conversation, scope an approach quickly, and iterate.

Cross-functional fluency. You will work daily with field engineers, project managers, operations teams, and an independent Applied Research team. Someone who can only operate within a pure research silo will struggle here.

Intellectual honesty. When an ablation study shows the data isn't working, you need to say so — clearly and constructively — even when it's inconvenient for the deal timeline.

What You Should Know About This Team

We are small and high-leverage. The FDRT is a team of five today. Every person's work directly influences client outcomes and Labelbox's market position.

We operate at the tempo of client delivery. Two-week sprints. SLAs measured in days. If you want months of uninterrupted focus on a single problem, our Applied Research team is a better fit.

We are at the intersection of several teams. FDRT works with Field Delivery Engineers, Human Data Operations, Applied Research, and client research teams. The role requires navigating those interfaces with credibility and without ego.

We protect time for research. 25–30% of team capacity is allocated to research collaboration with Applied Research. This is not aspirational — it is a structural commitment. You will have the opportunity to publish.

Labelbox strives to ensure pay parity across the organization and discuss compensation transparently. The expected annual base salary range for United States-based candidates is below. This range is not inclusive of any potential equity packages or additional benefits. Exact compensation varies based on a variety of factors, including skills and competencies, experience, and geographical location.

Annual base salary range

$200,000—$300,000 USD

Life at Labelbox

Environment: Fast-paced and high-intensity, perfect for ambitious individuals who thrive on ownership and quick decision-making

Growth: Career advancement opportunities directly tied to your impact

Vision: Be part of building the foundation for humanity's most transformative technology

Enterprise Platform & Tools: Advanced annotation tools, workflow automation, and quality control systems that enable teams to produce high-quality training data at scale

Frontier Data Labeling Service: Specialized data labeling through Alignerr, leveraging subject matter experts for next-generation AI models

Expert Marketplace: Connecting AI teams with highly skilled annotators and domain experts for flexible scaling

Role Overview

About the Role

The Managing Partner owns the successful delivery of complex customer programs from initial scoping through steady-state execution — on time, to the quality bar, and at margin. This is a senior, customer-facing role for operators who can translate a customer's technical and business requirements into clear execution plans, coordinate multiple internal workstreams, own the economics of the deployment, and ensure projects meet their throughput, quality, delivery, and margin commitments.

Managing Partner sit at the intersection of customer relationship management, technical program management, and operational and financial execution. They must understand the underlying technical requirements of each program well enough to pressure-test implementation plans and communicate tradeoffs clearly with the customer — and own the unit economics well enough to protect margin while they do it.

The Managing Partner is the operations-and-margin leg of the customer team: they own delivery and the deployment's economics, partnering with the General Manager, who owns the broader customer relationship and growth. They are the primary point of accountability for the delivery of a major customer or portfolio of projects, and the customer's point of contact when timelines, requirements, or operational performance are in play. They coordinate Technical Program Managers and Forward Deployed Engineers across the account, ensuring each workstream is staffed from the pools, technically sound, and aligned with the broader customer objective.

This role is equivalent in seniority to a TPM Manager, but with a stronger emphasis on customer ownership, deployment success, and margin. It is a senior destination on the TPM track and a pathway toward a General Manager role. General Managers own the broader account end-to-end, including the overall customer and researcher relationships, proposal development, account strategy, operating cadence, and the portfolio of deployments delivered for that customer.

What You'll Do

Own the end-to-end deployment of projects for one or more major customers, from initial scoping and technical design through launch and ongoing execution — accountable for throughput, quality, delivery, and margin.

Own the economics of your deployments: instrument margin live, manage the cost-to-revenue picture across the account's projects, and make the in-flight calls (comp structure, staffing, project structure) that protect it, the level where TPMs escalate margin-structure decisions.

Serve as the customer's primary point of contact for delivery — timelines, technical requirements, risks, and operational performance.

Develop a detailed understanding of each customer's technical requirements: system constraints, integrations, data flows, workflows, and acceptance criteria.

Translate customer requirements into clear project plans, milestones, owners, success metrics, and a margin model.

Ensure the account's projects move through their gates — calibration before scaling, staged ramp, delivery acceptance — so quality and margin hold across the portfolio.

Work closely with FDEs, TPMs, and FDRs to validate implementation plans, manage dependencies, and ensure technical decisions support the customer's goals and the deployment's economics.

Coordinate TPMs and FDEs across multiple concurrent projects, maintaining a clear view of progress, staffing, risk, margin, and cross-project dependencies — and ensure projects are staffed from the pools and the data-trainer workforce is sized and productive via TPMs and Pod Leads.

Communicate technical and economic tradeoffs and implementation risks clearly to customer stakeholders and internal teams.

Identify risks early, establish mitigation plans, and escalate when timelines, technical feasibility, quality, or margin are at risk.

Partner with FDEs, FDRs, the Talent/Crowd team, the GM, and platform teams to unblock execution.

Establish the operating cadence, dashboards, and escalation paths that create visibility and accountability — and improve deployment playbooks as the organization scales.

What You'll Own

Delivery of your customer's portfolio — on time, to the quality bar, and at or above target margin.

The deployment's economics: live margin, the cost-to-revenue picture, and the in-flight decisions that protect it.

The customer's trust on delivery and operational performance.

A clear operating cadence and a live view of progress, staffing, risk, and margin across projects.

What We're Looking For

Significant experience owning complex, cross-functional programs in a customer-facing environment — as an operator who has run things, not advised on them.

Financial and commercial numeracy: comfort owning margin, building and reading the unit economics of a program, and making the call to protect it.

Strong technical fluency and the ability to quickly understand complex systems, workflows, and implementation requirements.

Ability to communicate credibly with technical customer stakeholders while translating technical detail into clear decisions for non-technical audiences.

A track record of partnering effectively with engineers, program managers, and cross-functional operators.

Excellent judgment: you can distinguish technical issues from execution issues from customer-management issues, and find the right path to resolution.

A strong track record of delivering against ambitious timelines while holding a high bar for quality.

Comfort operating in ambiguous environments where requirements evolve and processes are still being built.

Strong operational instincts, a bias toward action, and attention to detail across multiple projects at once.

Nice to Have

Background in consulting, banking, private equity/VC, or an operating role where you owned a P&L or a hard number.

Experience deploying technical products, services, or data-intensive programs.

Familiarity with AI, machine learning, data pipelines, or RL/evaluation work.

Experience working directly with forward-deployed engineers, solutions engineers, or implementation teams.

Experience managing strategic accounts with multiple parallel workstreams.

Experience building repeatable operating systems for a rapidly scaling organization.

What Success Looks Like

In your first several months, you'll take ownership of a major customer deployment, develop a strong understanding of its technical and operational requirements, stand up a clear operating cadence, and bring real visibility to delivery risk and margin. You'll build strong working relationships with the TPM, FDE, and FDR teams and the GM, keep the technical and operational workstreams coordinated, hold your projects to their gates, and become the customer's trusted point of contact when implementation decisions, timelines, or margins are at risk.

Over time, you'll help define how the organization deploys complex technical programs at scale.

$200,000—$230,000 USD

Life at Labelbox

Environment: Fast-paced and high-intensity, perfect for ambitious individuals who thrive on ownership and quick decision-making

Growth: Career advancement opportunities directly tied to your impact

Vision: Be part of building the foundation for humanity's most transformative technology

Our Vision

We believe data will remain crucial in achieving artificial general intelligence. As AI models become more sophisticated, the need for high-quality, specialized training data will only grow. Join us in developing new products and services that enable the next generation of AI breakthroughs.

The Role

We’re hiring a Member of Technical Staff to own the design, development, and production of Frontier Data Products. You’ll build the sandboxed, reproducible environments AI agents rely on during training and evaluation, the terminals, browsers, and tool-augmented workspaces they operate inside.

This is a hands-on engineering role. You’ll write production-quality infrastructure, integrate with the broader RL tooling ecosystem, and partner closely with our data operations team to keep environments robust and observable for annotators and model agents alike. Above all, you’ll need a real grasp of how RL training loops consume environments and where they tend to break.

What You’ll Do

Design, build, and maintain sandboxed RL environments for agentic AI training—including terminal emulators, browser automation harnesses, computer-use simulators, and tool-augmented workspaces (e.g., environments built on frameworks like TerminalBench, OSWorld, and Tau-bench)

Develop reproducible, containerized execution environments (Docker, VMs, lightweight sandboxes) that support deterministic task rollouts and reward signal collection

Integrate with and extend open-source agentic tooling and custom CLI/API harnesses to enable multi-step agent interaction

Build instrumentation and observability layers- structured logging, trajectory capture, state snapshotting, so training runs and human annotation sessions produce clean, auditable data

Strong debugging instincts, you can trace failures across process boundaries, container layers, and network calls

The ideal candidate is a strong software engineer first, with genuine curiosity and working knowledge of how modern AI systems are built and evaluated. You’ve probably built infrastructure or developer tooling at a startup or mid-stage company, and you’ve been pulled toward the AI space maybe through side projects, open-source contributions, or a prior role adjacent to an applied AI or ML team. You’re the kind of engineer who reads a benchmark paper or evaluation framework and immediately thinks about how to make the underlying system more robust, not just how to improve the model’s output.

You thrive in ambiguity. You can take a loosely defined project requirement, “build an environment that tests an agent’s ability to navigate a file system and execute multi-step bash workflows” and deliver a working, tested, documented system without needing a detailed spec. You move fast, but you care about reliability because you know systems that break silently poison the data everything downstream depends on.

Why This Role Matters

Reinforcement learning has become the state-of-the-art approach for training agentic AI, and environment quality is one of its biggest bottlenecks. Environments that are brittle, non-deterministic, or poorly instrumented produce noisy signals that directly degrade model performance. You’ll be solving one of the highest-leverage infrastructure problems in AI today.

You’ll work across a portfolio of projects spanning different AI labs and model capabilities with no single-product monotony. The environment types you build will evolve as RL continues to shape the frontier of agent capabilities.

Alignerr is a small, high-impact team inside Labelbox. You’ll have startup-level ownership with growth-stage resources.

$140,000—$200,000 USD

Life at Labelbox

Environment: Fast-paced and high-intensity, perfect for ambitious individuals who thrive on ownership and quick decision-making

Growth: Career advancement opportunities directly tied to your impact

Vision: Be part of building the foundation for humanity's most transformative technology

Our Vision

We believe data will remain crucial in achieving artificial general intelligence. As AI models become more sophisticated, the need for high-quality, specialized training data will only grow. Join us in developing new products and services that enable the next generation of AI breakthroughs.

High-Impact Environment: We operate like an early-stage startup, focusing on impact over process. You'll take on expanded responsibilities quickly, with career growth directly tied to your contributions.

Role Overview

Labelbox is the RL data factory for advancing frontier agent capabilities. We build the data, environments, and evaluations that frontier labs use to train and judge their agents.

This role sits where training meets infrastructure. You will run the experiments and build the systems that run them: environments agents act in, verifiers that decide whether they succeeded, and the fine-tuning pipelines that turn that signal into a better model. We're looking for someone who does both halves — the engineering throughput of a strong platform engineer, and real depth in post-training agents.

The bar is high: engineers with strong judgment who set technical direction, turn prototypes into reliable systems fast, and are at the frontier of agent-first engineering practice.

What you'll work on

RL environments for agentic tasks: task definitions, tool surfaces, state and reset semantics, reward design — and the harness that runs thousands of them in parallel.

Verifiers and graders: programmatic checks, LLM judges, rubric pipelines, pass@k scoring. Deciding what "the agent succeeded" means, and making that judgment trustworthy at scale.

Fine-tuning pipelines that turn evaluation signals into measurable agent improvements — SFT and RL, from data collection through training to checkpoint evaluation.

Eval systems that run millions of agent trajectories to measure model and product quality.

Training and serving infrastructure that scales to the throughput frontier labs need: multi-launcher orchestration, long-running job fault tolerance, cost accounting.

What we're looking for

As an engineer

A 3+ year track record of shipping systems that customers and other engineers still rely on.

Exceptional throughput, without the quality tax. You ship a lot, you review a lot, and the v1 you ship becomes the foundation the rest of the team builds on.

Strong system and API design judgment. Hard architecture calls land with you: you make them, defend them under pressure, and update fast when someone else is right.

You ship production code with coding agents daily. You know where they break and what it takes to make them reliable, and you use that to move the whole team faster.

You build the substrate other people's work runs on — tooling, CI, harnesses, libraries — and you treat that as the job, not a distraction from it.

You move fast in ambiguous, startup-pace environments, with influence over authority.

Deep proficiency in Python, and comfort across the rest of the stack.

As an RL post-training practitioner

You have fine-tuned models for agentic tasks and made them measurably better. SFT plus at least one RL method (GRPO, PPO, DPO, or similar) in production.

You have built environments agents operate in, and you know why reward and task design is where most of the difficulty actually lives.

You have designed verifiers or graders for open-ended work, and you know how they get gamed.

You debug training runs forensically and methodically.

You reason about compute-economics. You know what an experiment costs, when a run is not worth finishing, and how to get the same signal for a tenth of the spend.

You write up what you learned so it changes what the team does next.

Nice to have

Experience with agent harnesses and coding agents as subjects of training and evaluation.

Multi-tenancy and isolation for untrusted agent execution: sandboxing, egress control, credential handling.

Background in production distributed systems, ML infrastructure, or data systems at scale.

Experience working directly with frontier labs or other highly technical customers.
